Hey, how do I get my lower leg to behave? I can never get it to stay nice and still in trot :S It's normally okay over jumps just in trot it moves all over the place!!

I never used to have this problem at all so um yeah how do I get my lower leg to stay still?

Here is a video with clips of me riding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzsLimJr8no it's fairly old (winter you can tell from his clip) but I think thats about when i started having the problem.

Thanks XD

Bit hard to see, but it looks like you are using your legs to push yourself up when you rise to the trot, so pushing your foot forwards? Perhaps you are just trying too hard! Let the motion of the trot allow you to move your hips a little up and forward, before gently coming back to the saddle, don't try and aim for a straight up and down bounce as your legs will just fly forwards as you try and push off.

i used to do that try putting your stirrups up and make sure you are squeeing with your legs and theat your toes are pointing in that really helped me
if you still cant get it right ask your instructor
good luck X

I always think of rising from my knees..not my ankles so im using my knees to controll the rise not my feet. And as glos girl said its more about moving your pelvis up and forward rather than going straight up and down.

does it help to think of your feet as really heavy, heels down, and pretend they're made of lead ? It certainly helps me when my legs go everywhere when I ride bareback :D

OK, I also get this problem. You need to think of your knees as the pivot in the whole movement. Your thighs rotate around this pivot to get you rising. It helps to think about leading the rise with your pelvis. Your stomach muscles need to be engaged to keep your position.
