The strangest thing just happened!

A very somerset old boy just came down our driveway with a trap and 3 ponies (one driving and two attached to the trap), he said he is trying to sell his 6 month filly before he is having to take her to Quantock market tomorrow morning. He said he has seen my stable from the A30 and thought I might be able to take her off his hands as he is desperate not to take her to market (has to sell her for reasons out of his control)

She is 6 month filly welsh cob to make 14.2hh. To me she is amazingly well behaved (being led down the A30 is wow enough!) and looked relatively chirpy and is healthy.

This guys clearly loves his horses but is in a predicament and is obviously desperate to do the right thing and not send her to meat.

Can anyone help?

Aww she looks sweet... obviously not something to be taken on lightly but if you think you could offer her a good home and have time etc and youre happy why not? Would be a shame for her to go to market but dont bite off more than you can chew!

I cant have her, I have no space for her long term

I dont think she is stolen, he had the fillys mum with him and she made a fuss when he untied the filly and led her away from her. I have seen him driving the mare in the past as well

Sounds like a dodgy sob story to me, afraid I'd stay well clear unless he has papers, passport and lots of proof that she belongs to him in the first place. Door to door is not the normal way to sell a horse especially if he loves it like he says he does. The words wouldn't touch and bargepole spring to mind I'm afraid.

Oh no, that tops the memorial note attached to a balloon that landed in my garden yesterday!!

I'm so glad i'm the other end of the country.

Sorry no help with your dilemma but don't take it all on your shoulders to be the life saver, he's probably knocked on many other doors.

I'd go for it if i could, those pony's that find u are often just meant to be!
Seriously though, alot of people are forced to sell at the mo and a good quiet 14.2 could be worth a few bobs in the future.
she looks a lovely girl.

Skippy do, just out of curiosity, was it a Baby one? Another website I go on was doing this for a baby that had passed away.

be careful gypsies are VERY VERY GOOD at saying they are sending to market so that nice owners buy off them instead. There is a lady I know of who now has 20 horses bought off local gypsies who were sending to market or having them shot if she did not buy them.

Just another thought: If she is that nice, she probably won't go for meat from the market. I'd hazard a guess he wouldn't get £250 for her either.

You could go to the market tomorrow to satisfy yourself that she isn't going to the meat man, and if necessary intervene and bid? If JM07 is about before then she will be able to tell you the meat price, so if she goes above that she shouldn't be going to meat.

If you do that and he knows, just make sure your horses and pones aren't left alone while you are out. And if you buy her beforehand, please please don't accept her without a passport. Make him go back home with her for it if necessary.

No, it was from some grandchildren to their grandad that died a year ago.
