right,, i need opinions, i have a feeling sky has a back problem :'( found 2 little lumps o his back over the weekend, just thought they were bites, had my lesson on him tonight and you know when ur gettin to sleep n u randomly jump? well he kept doin that from the withers upwards randomly when we were standing still, and when we were walking/trotting round he was throwing his head up so his nose was vertical in the air , and swinging his head around, got off untacked and now there are 3 lumps and they are bigger, they are under the saddle area, quite firm but squishy, and he doesnt mind them being touched/pushed. Thinking of getting them checked, hes getting the dentist aswell. Any advice? opinions? x (think this is in the right place :S)
Without seeing them it's impossible to guess what they are. They could be insect bites & putting a saddle on them has rubbed & bruised them, they could be pressure spots from the saddle or they could be something entirely different.
Getting his back checked certainly won't do any harm & may well find something that would explain why he was unsettled. If the lumps don't go though you probably need a vet to have a look.
It does sound as if his back is hurting, especially if his behaviour in the lesson was unusaul for him. I would certainly get him checked out either by your vet or the back person you use.
i would get this checked out very soon.it may seem like a little prob to you(when you say he dont mind them touched)but little things have an awful way of getting worse.
how long do they take to go down? i'd be very tempted to try a totally different saddle on him, if you can borrow one that's a reasonable fit. that behaviour sounds to me as if he's trying to tell you something tbh.
Thumper has started to come up in the odd lump on his back. Some are around the saddle area - some aren't, so I'm not worried that the saddle is causing him a problem. I think it may actually be fly bites (although goodness knows how they're getting under the rug).
I put a small dab of E1% Hydrocortisone cream on them - and they dissapear very quickly.
However, if one does appear directly where his saddle will sit I do not ride him.
i would def get him checked over especially as you have been having problems with him rearing for quite while and with him knocking you out recently (go onto SS/KO so know from there)
Storm used to get the occasional lump and they didnt bother him when i touched them so i got him a foam back pad and they soon went down, so could be the same things but not sure if he is doin that when you are riding him, id get it checked out
