As a vet nurse of 20 years, can I just advise people NOT to give dogs paracetamol! If vets do use it, which is very rare now, the dose is worked out very carefully according to species and the risk of paracetamol poisoning is considered against the risk of the condition to the dog.It is extremely toxic indeed to cats and must never be given, and in dogs it can be very toxic to some dogs. The possibilty of extensive kidney and liver damage to dogs from small doses of paracetamol is very high. One 500mg tablet could be enough to kill a small dog and giving it to bigger dogs over a period of time could have a very detrimental effect on their health.Ibruprofen must never be given to dogs by owners either. There are much more effective vet-licensed painkillers for dogs, without the harmful side effects.Don't want to alarm you but would be irresponsible of me to read the posts and not point this out.How is the pup doing MFE?
NEVER give dogs paracetamol. It causes liver damage among other issues and it is not designed for them. I work in a vets and see it all the time, I cannot stress enough not to give it!!!!
