Please read...

There has been several posts on my Flyball website re this.
Here are a few for your info:
I have a friend who lives in Clumber Park and she is going to ask a ranger if they've put bait down.
Toxicology results take weeks, and most owners don't want them done because of the cost and won't have autopsies done either. In the meantime, I'd suggest putting plastic cage muzzles on dogs for their walks in suspect areas.
If the authorities are putting non-toxic rodent bait down for squirrels etc, (Eradibait), it doesn't affect any other species. If not, they are also poisoning other species, hedgehogs etc.

From one of our team members who live in this region:

A vet in Kings Lynn has warned not to walk dogs in Sandringham woods as 1 dog has died and several seriously ill.
Put down as possible virus from squirrels?

Other animals have also died from poisoning at these venues.

WARNING ..... been walking on the old pit tip at mansfield woodhouse to find wen we got back there is noticed about not letting your dogs off leads up there because of the deaths of dogs and other animals and its now spread to pea field lane woods just past the red brick house on way to edwinstow so seems to be spreading , we spoke to local vets and they said it could be carried on the paws of amimals or worse still air born but they still dont no what is is they are dealing with ! there has been a incedent room set up for any new case or anything known about it ...... the vet did say washing your pets paws after walking in the area mite be a good idea ...

Thanks for that Karen.
It's very worrying. The Forestry Commission has put notices up at various woodlands advising dog walkers to keep their dogs on leads, but there are dogs that have not been let off lead (the owners state) that have died.

Natural England are carrying out tests, but toxicology results take time, sometimes a few weeks, depending on what they are looking for.

Hopefully they will find out the cause very quickly. In the meantime it would be wiser for dog walkers not to exercise their dogs in woodland or moorland.
Dogs walked in local parks, tow paths etc, have reported any problems.

OOOooops!
that should read
Dogs walked in local parks, tow paths etc, have NOT reported any problems.

It sounds as though we need to be quite vigilant with our dogs at the moment. Take care everyone.
