What's he like in the school? I would get saddle checked as may be uncomfortable- they are constantly changing shape at that age. Is it a confidence thing- have you had any bad experiences? Is it in company or just alone you have problems?

Hey, He is quite bad in a school , Bucking , spinning etc but that is only when the horse in front goes off to canter or trot.
Yeah i will save up as i get payed soon ,
We have had a bad exp when he was following my mums car and he broke into a canter and instead of stopping him i let him canter but a tractor was behind him and his head was looking from side to side ( He now thinks that tractors chase him ).

It is alone - He has quite soft feet atm but i cannot afford shoes - He has been riding for less than a year anyway so they should harden up anyway x
Thanks x

fierce fives: i would say its the naughty napping, it may be discomfort and ideally get the vet and saddler out but realistically a lot f 5 year olds can grow nappy especially out hacking, try walking him out in hand to establish a routine, and go out with a buddy but make him lead when you can, hope this helps a bit just my opinion. x

Is there some one who could check the saddle fit for you ? How are his feet ? Does he have thrush in his frogs as this could make him reluctant to leave the yard.

I agree with this it could well be naughty 5's. When you hack out try to use the grass verges if he does have sore feet it will certainly help out. Do you have anyone to ride with??

probably not my place... but if you are this struggled to pay for a vet or shoes.... surely horse ownership might not be for you?! :(

but aside from that point, i agree with others. probably just a napping phase as he might be past the 'honeymoon' period and just be trying it on... so try and lead him out in hand or with another horse on rides but try and make him go side by side/infront. be patient, and if you can afford it get someone out to properly fit a saddle/check his back/teeth (which i think is very important thing to do... and if you can't afford to keep a horse healthy then.... well... )

why would you want to waste time and money on this :S just brush his teeth twice a day with a toothpaste containing floride and he will be just dandy.

TBH he isnt naughty, just with all the hunting he is not used to being overtaken by anyone....

FBH

I see from your recent posts that you are looking to borrow stock and pin, Pelham with reins and a horse and your saddle doesnt fit...

Before you go hunting I suggest that you take a long hard think about whether you are quite ready to go hunting ;)

Ignore this post, they are just well jel...

TBH i think he is fine. Just strap his mouth tight shut (a crank noseband will help), put on some drawreins, remember the 5 point breast plate/martingale and wear spurs. He is just being naughty because the other ponies are probably bullying him, they are jealous of what a fab hunter he is!

Sod hacking, he hunts, he doesnt need to hack. I mean, what he is really going to learn out hacking?!

I hope this helps, if not i know a friend of a distant relation that has a set of DVDs on offer "hunting for the real rider - how to hunt and cut costs as the same time" its fab!

Like I said before on your hunting thread, stick a couple of sets of wellies on him - that'll stop his feet getting soft from being in the mud!

You should also put his feed on the back of a tractor and he can eat it whilst the tractor goes along, that way he will learn tractors don't chase him, he chases them!

If you've got a padded numnah and your saddle doesn't fit do t bother getting it checked, bin the saddle and just tie the numnah on with some string - of course if string is too expensive nick some bailer twine from some other livery's hay and use that :) a bit round the belly and a bit securing numnah to his ears and his tail should keep it in place.

Are you mad??!!! Don't you know that wearing shoes is unnatural and evil for a horse  bearfoot is best!

How irresponsible, where are you going to put the feed and what feed are you going to use? A haynet would be best as you and tie it on, alternatively, get a big bucket digger to reverse and fill the bucket with oats. That should work.

First sensible thing you have come out with, but dont buy the string, just borrow some and dont return it.

BH, in a previous thread though she was worried about mud on his gypsy banner feathers - I figure two birds one stone there with the wellies - or would maybe some flip flops or crocs be a better idea - a bit less 'shoey'?! ;)

Took the words out my mouth.
My fella is just about hitting five (his saddle is bridging) getting that sorted tomorrow :D Yet it doesnt stop him bronc'ing around everywhere and trying and good old bolt (not out of pain may I add).

We are at your stage. You are not alone!
We have tried walking out in hand, ages ago (would be great if he didn't bolt in hand) it just takes a lot of encouragement and pushing on with my boy. Don't get disheartened, keep those energy levels forward!! Think forward all the time, don't let your mind relapse! (guilty of that)
Once we have got past the initial- "Mum... I am going to run home with you now.. mum I'm just going to stop... mum there is a monster!!"
We are fine :D:D

I'd place my bets on it just being a stage. Sometimes Bailey doesn't like going out if his feet are a wee bit sore, due to the hard hard frost we had here. (Wimp of a Highland!!)

All the best though! X

Come on guys.... I think she's just a kid :(

I agree with Suzie. If you think someone is trolling the best thing to do is ignore the post.....no need to be rude to someone if they ARE acually seeking advice. Remember there are some younger HHOers on here :(

ps. My horse has suddenly stopped wanting to hack alone also so I feel your pain and would be interested to hear some HELPFUL replies ;)

Some people on this forum are more concerned with outing "trolls" than helping people who genuinely have problems :(. I can we see why people despair at the amount of bitchiness and judgemental people in the horse world.

If you are having problems i strongly advise you to get some help, babies can be very naughty and if he is going through one of these phases it may be worth getting someone more experienced in to help you. Get his saddle checked too.
My daughter hunts with the FBH so if you pm me i can give you some names of people who could help you (they could also have a look at your saddle).

I've only read the first couple of posts on here so i dont know what everyone has suggested, but i would put money on it being napping.

Secondly and more importantly, i'm sorry to say this BUT...... if you cannot afford a vet or to have shoes on it, then i would suggest you shouldnt own a horse. May seem harsh, but its the truth.
