This is my mini shetland Bugsy, he is 16 years old. He gets ridden now and again in the field by very my friends small children, he is mainly used as a companion to my cob mare. He is as quiet as a lamb and never gives me any trouble, he happily stays in the field alone when I ride out my mare and just waits by the gate for us to return.
He was diagnosed with cushings when he was 13, but fingers crossed he has not had any illnesses with it although he does has 1/3 of a tablet everyday to control it.
We have two, the first one was a companion for the big horses, but when I went to uni, the big horse had to go, so we got a second one, which, I guess, is the companion to the companion
Ebony (Companion 1)
She gets sweet itch so bad that she managed to hog her own mane, down from about 18" long, and makes her self bleed, so she has a sweet itch rug on there. She is 9 this year, and is backed, but we no longer have anyone to ride her, she's a miniature shetland that grew an inch too big, so we can't show her either.
This is Teddy (Companion 2)
He is 3 this year, and a proper miniature shetland (we're hoping one day he finds out he's all intact and we can have a foal ) but, unusually for a shetland, he didn't winter too well and is a bit skinny atm (not in photo) so he also gets fed atm... we do molly coddle them a bit
This is Maud, she is a miniature horse x Shetland, and her foal who has a sec A father (not my idea to breed that combination ) Maud is 20 now and just mooches round the field as a babysitter, although I might take her to a show for veterans class this summer. Her foal is now 2yrs old, he will be shown in hand this season.
And this is Elspeth, my reg mini Shettie, she's 5 and I've done in hand showing with her since she was 2.
