I agree that animal experimentation is horrible but until enough advances have been made so that it is redundant, isn't it better to have laboratories in this country, where there is strong regulation, accountability and welfare checks, than pushing it abroad where there is lesser controls?

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I would never agree with animal testing for cosmetics etc, but at the moment testing on animals is a necessary part of new drug development. Its not perfect but its the best we have, and I'd rather have it here in the UK than overseas where legislation on animal welfare may be weaker.
