I don't know if this has already been posted.

Sorry, going to have to buck the trend here.. i wont sign it!! I live round VERY narrow country lanes, very twisty in parts, and straight for a bit in others, but all single track (not even room for say a car and a bike).. At some places i easily drive at 60mph, in others 20mph!! While riding around these lanes (which i do every day as i have no where else to ride) i've (touch wood) never had a problem, and don't mind others driving at say 60mph in places...

Ok i agree there are some wanker drivers out there.. but don't cover the whole country with the same brush!! (i'll be late for work for a start)

I agree with MissDeMeena, I live in a remote part of Wales surrounded by such roads - I drive to what i can see & yes it varies from 20 to 60 mph - Im sorry but it would make even the shortest of journeys take forever if I was restricted to 30.

I dont know about this. Obviously would make hacking a bit safer. But I think people need to be taught to use their common sense and not do 60mph round blind bends on narrow roads! Like MissDeMeena says, this is quite a "nanny state" thing to enforce.

I live up in Scotland so we have loads of twisty, narrow lanes - having to do 30mph everywhere would take forever!

I agree with MdM here, most drivers who use these roads do respect the road conditions, it's only a few who think they are indestructible who don't - will making the speed limit 30 mph have any effect on these few? I doubt it. So the outcome will be that our lovely lanes will be cluttered up with more signs and idiots will still speed.

I agree with MDM - it isn't necessary! The people who really need restricting, won't pay any attention to it anyway, so it's fairly pointless!

well i live in wales, have been in a head on collision with a van on the windy narrow lanes and was very lucky to get out alive. However i wont sign it! simply because there are places on the roads near me where you can happily and easily do 50 and if i was restricted to 30 then getting into town would likely take over an hour. The few drivers who do speed on roads round me (like the one that hit me) wouldnt pay any attention to a speed limit anyway, and the police are far to busy in town to bother with the country lanes!

Exactly, there would be no way to police a 30mph limit round lanes...

Ive also been in a nasty crash on the lanes, but a 30mph limit wouldn't have stoped it happening!!!

MDM, i was doing about 20mph up a steep hill round a blind corner on a road that was one way with passing places, the guy who hit me was doing around 60mph. he wouldnt have slowed down if there was a speed limit anyway, so whats the point in limiting the sensible drivers. i think the police should have more power to give fines and points to people who are not driving sensibly!

Yes, but you can say that about any speed limit - do you drive at 70 on a motorway? Do you stick to the 30mph or even 20mph signs that you come across and never waiver over them?

All this petition is trying to do is to make country lanes safer for horse riders - is that such a bad thing? And if it takes longer to drive some where then leave earlier, its not going to kill you. I ride on a 60mph lane and i also have to drive down it to get to my horses, i never ever do over 40 along it as you never know what is round the corner - be it horses, dear or anything else.
