Hiya everyone. I don't know if this kind of post is allowed on here or whether I will get my wrists slapped over it but I don't really care to be honest because when you read what it has to say you will understand why I posted it.
web page a bale of hay for charity
I have bought a fab sticker from these people which is excellent and well worth the money. It will help save horses lives in two ways. Firstly by promoting awareness to those idiots who drive along the roads with little or no regard for horses and their riders. Get one of these stick it in your car window and the next time you see some boy racer or dipstick racing up behind you slow down at the next junction/lights etc and make them notice the sticker.
Secondly the funds raised from the sale of this sticker goes towards an excellent charity called Equine Market Watch Sanctuaries UK Visit their website and read what they do.
I realised after using the link that I had heard of this charity before as I had read some awful reports that I came across last year about visits to horse sales up and down the country. After reading about what they do and the stories on the website I felt compelled to act and so bought the sticker and then a bale of hay.
I am posting this message to highlight a charity that is very worthwhile. For those of you who already know of the charity and its work and already support them then well done and I hope I have not offended. For those that haven't please read about them and then make up your mind if you can afford just £2.50 to buy a bale of much needed hay.

Hiya Sammi they may not be on at the moment you could always ask the seller if they will sell you one or a couple? I bought mine this week but don't know how often they list them.
Thanks wonderhorse that is very good of you

Hope I'm not offending people by posting this it's just that these smaller charities don't get the same publicity as the bigger horse charities

Aw Sarah I am sorry to hear that

I cannot imagine what that must be like I am so sorry x
I will be putting it on our car tomorrow and would plaster the car with them if I could and if it would help make drivers more aware of horses.
Only the other day we were leading our two on the main road near where I live as I brought them home for a bath as you're not allowed to hose down at the yard due to a water meter.
Twice I lost my rag with drivers grhhh!
One time my daughter was in front with the big lad she is 5ft 6 he is 16.3 I was behind with a nervous 14.3 young cob( don't know why but he was very edgy on Monday). There are cars parked on main road even though they have spaces to park behind the houses at the back.
Anyway I was going along and was hoping to pull in after some cars ( they were on opposite side of the road) and some stupid drivers went between us and the cars. One missed me and the horse by inches. The male driver got a mouthfull I'm afraid.
Thing is they could see a gap and we were going to stop and beckon them through but some drivers have no patience for horses do they.
Then on way back to the yard. We had to stop behind the cars that were parked on our side then.
Nat was in front with Doug, she had gone round a car and stopped. Mcfly was fretting as he was left behind.
A car on the opposite side had stopped to let drivers through and us. Anyway a woman pulls up behind me in the car. I expected her to wait. Oh no as I went through and was going to meet up with Nat get around the other car and then wait for traffic. She revved up slightly and drove right up our arse.
I was so annoyed. I said if this horse kicks your car I won't be held responsible but don't think she heard me. I met up with daughter and we went through the gap which the driver opposite had left with the car behind us still following. The driver who had stopped -only a young lad - could not believe how the other driver had acted. I thanked him for stopping and letting us through though.

Sammi I will try and find on for you as I cannot take one of mine as it is back to front at the moment as it is still attached to the paper part.

thanks everyone for your support though

I bought a couple of bales several weeks ago. Cheaper than my normal hay and a lot lighter to carry! ( -or not as the case may be).

Maybe they can introduce oats as well so that I can make podge jealous when I tell him.

Veteran Horse Welfare also use e-bay in case anyone wants to get any Christmas cards early etc. The more equine charities you support the better.

Thanks panic buyer I will look out for them too and well done on buying the hay as well

I like the joke about them being lighter though lol that made me chuckle lol

No problems Sammi I just think they are brilliant and it is such a good cause x

Exactly!!! I think I may also have to stick one onto the back of my riding hat, it is unbelivable how many near misses I have had. I hate hacking out now, even though it is on country roads and on quite a quiet pony, I am just scared that something will happen.

I feel the same everytime I go out for a hack as well because the stables are on a bend straight onto a pretty busy country road. Some people drive down there so fast. Only this year a cyclist was killed yards from the stables

I have been in touch with the seller on ebay and there are stickers for sale right now so be quick

Have a look at their new shop on the link I posted as well! They haven't updated the website yet, the shop is so new.

Thanks for that Booboo as I didn't know they were on the website too. I had a quick look for them while I was looking for a pic of the sticker for Sammi but could not find any.

Thanks Tinypony for the link

yes they are and I now realise I know someone who has worked for them but I won't say anymore for confidentiality reasons.

i have just read this post (obviously)

and i am going to buy 6, for my friends and i.

there have been days when i wish i could just appear in peoples cars and punch their lights out (and i'm not violent)

on the other hand there are those who take the time and the effort to slow down, even if they don't own horses themselves. i was riding a 17.2 shire came across a tractor and being on her own she tried to whip round with me (we call her the ent (from the 'lord of the rings' cause she is so chilled) she would have only walked the other way! i was going to walk her down the lane and into a bridle path so that he could pass, but he switched his engine off got out of his cab, and led her past, and he has had nothing to do with horses in he life, he just took the time to think of others. if these stickers help to get others to just check themselves around horses when driving, they i say:

I'LL BUY A BLOODY BOX!!!

What a superstar! Wish there were more like him.
I've already got the car sticker, so I've brought this... and I'm deciding whether to buy some more stuff - just to make it worth the effort you understand!

Thankyou everyone for your continued support of this charity

Those t shirts are great Tinypony but they wouldn't suit me and unless they have them in black ( will check) I cannot get them for my daughter as she hates pink lol.
Queenbee that is a great gesture to buy so many for your friends and you as I really think these stickers are fantastic. I will sound out about them at the yard to see if anyone wants any or not.
It was a great story about the tractor driver too and it is nice to hear of people that are out there that think of others. I know one of my uncle's has a greater respect for horses and slows down for them. He did not think about them before really but once told me it was after seeing me go out for trek in Cockington some years back on holiday as a kid that made him realise just how fragile horses and their riders are whilst in the company of other road users.
I just wonder if there are any videos out there that promote safer driving around horses?
I know some maybe graphic but I think in the case of some drivers they have to be just to show them the consequences that can happen. I mean if you look at some of the drink driving and slow your speed down campaigns they have been hard hitting. Perhaps in light of the proposed changes to the highway code with regard to horses the government should be doing something to help us riders in return. Like educating drivers who have no understanding of horses on roads.
