Have been reading about the Jump Training winter series and am tempted to head to a couple as they are within 1 1/2 hours of me but finding it hard to get a real feel for the event format / experience from the BE site.

Is it worth it? Are the courses up to height? What sort of timescale does the day run under? Would you do just one class?

Basically I think I'm wondering what you get for the £32 entry in comparison to going out and doing, say, 2 BS classes....

Any help greatly appreciated :)

Thank you

Why don't you ring Fiona Saxby? She would be the best person to tell you about the courses and timings, etc. one trainer helps you with your warm up then you go in and jump the course which is judged on style, you then get some advice from the other trainer and you jump the course again.

Ok, thank you.

I'll try giving her a ring.

Does anyone know if they tend to be busy?

A friend takes her young horses to them sometimes and really rates them, partly because they are a bit quieter and more organised than many of the local jumping shows.

Hi,

I did one at Richmond this year. After a hip injury my horse and I had not jumped out and about for a year, and we needed to start somewhere to prep for the event season. It was great in that even the collecting ring was controlled by a trainer, and although there were a few people trotting and cantering around only one or two people were jumping.

The trainer helped warm me up, did the fence and gave advice. Then we went into the main arena and jumped a course as if it were a show, then the different BE trainer gave us advice on how to ride it better, and we did a second round.

The fact that each competitor is in the ring for longer made the collecting ring very civilised!

The only drawback for me was that even though it was "jump training" the results of our jumping went on the BE website. As it was our first outing for a year we did not go as well as I would have liked, and in fact this was the only "jump faults" record for us this year. I know this does not "matter" but it is a little annoying.

The day out was fantastic, supportive and positive. Plus, as I said it was all so civilised!

Hey Suzi - why don't we get together and have an outing? We are always up for a party particularly if friends are going. We can invite TS along and force-feed her fondant fancies ;)

I think the problem is they have Finals so they have to be transparent in their scoring. They had good prizes though and apparently the finals were a great experience. http://www.horseandcountry.tv/news/2012/04/12/big-prizes-be-jump-training-winners

Exactly! We haven't sat down with the diary yet (because I forgot to buy it before today!) but will do so this week. Would be good to see you and to catch up 😃
