I am mainly just curious (as always) but I might be interested in trying this out with the small field thatI am currently renting.. what are your experiences? would love to see any pictures or videos - I have already youtubed it!

I have a modified pp track system... its rented field so cant put down the stones and "watering hole" as I would like to . I love it though as its good for weight control of our good doers .. they have to walk around the edge with teh water trough at one end of the field and any other needs / activities at the other end. Fresh ickle patches / strips of grazing are scattered around the edge / lanes so they have to look / travel for grass.

The middle bits can be allowed to grow so that the "fresh" grass is not new growing stuff but long stalky and less sugary

tried to find a pic . know there one somewhere thats better but can only find this that showing anything at all

you can see that the posts are "permanent" wooden stakes rather than leccy fencing plastic ones .... wood is sturdier. Also we have used the thickest leccy tape., The field is split into lanes within the "middle" with the outer track being about 5 -8 yards or so wide (our field is not very big ... about 3 acres... ) but could be narrower on a bigger field.

The field is surrounded by hedges and trees so they have access to all of that to graze too as well as shelter.

There are several people on here I think that have other set ups using the same principle .

how many / big are the horses ?

we have four natives on ours and just use it fo 8 - 9 months of the year. we rest it then from mid december till when it gets dry enough about mid march, beg april

actually even if its smaller than ours you could still have the track system going if the whole field is too big as it is for whatever horses are on it grazing wise ;)

The width of the track would be that which could maintain a healthy weight on all the horses / pones in it if you wanted to keep the midddle for winter grazing....... or a little narrower if like us the whole field is too much all at once and you want it slowly grazed throughout year in total.

i have put one up on a paddock which is about 2/3rd an acre, the middle is rested and i cut this with a sythe and put on the track (only a little bit at a time) i then shut the track off about mid sept (depend on the weather ) and rest that until about mid nov, the track is then taken down until about march april and i start the process again. keeps them moving and also is better than a small restrictive paddock

i did a fatty track for my mare when i didn't had a saddle for a few months and she started to balloon! worked really well - didn't do all of the different types of surfaces etc - just used it to encourage movement rather than restrict her - i'd def recommend it :)
