After losing my nerve and our jumping going down the toilet I have been working with a new trianer and now love jumping my little guy.

There is a show on today and I really want to go (you would not believe what a change this is). Now the issue is it is supposed to get up to about 29 degrees here today and horsey is not as fit as he should be and does get very hot and sweaty just riding in the field in cooler temperatures.

So am in 2 minds about this as we will be jumping from 1pm onwards just as the day is getting to the hottest point. I would never forgive myself if jumping in this heat hurt him so am thinking that it would be best not to go and wait for the next shows to come up.

So am I being sensible?

I personally wouldn't go. You know if it was a qualifier and you had pre-entered then maybe. Saying that, I wouldn't go because of me, I hate the sun and heat.

There'll be other shows with more favourable conditions and your horse will be fitter then too.

how big is the class? as long as it's a height you think he'll be able to go round easily i don't think there's that much of a problem in doing it as long as you bring enough water for him to drink and to sponge him down after.
i don't ride for that long in the warm up anyway (and neither do most people i find) and then doing a round of jumps will probably be less time riding than you would if you were riding him at home. you can try and go at the end of the class too

If you're debating it then don't go, you don't want to turn up and be worrying about the temps making you ride uneffectivley.

As it's your first show in a while I'd wait till there's nothing putting you off :)

1. How hard is the ground - would be more worried about that than the temperature.

2. You could go just to 'pop' over the practice fence and then make up your mind whether to enter!

Agree with this, the ground is like concrete at the moment, that would worry me more than a bit of heat.
As long as you don't spend the day charging around under the midday sun, she'll be fine with the heat just sponge her down if she's sweaty & make sure she has a drink if she wants one.
Have fun if you decide to go

I am glad it is not just me who hates the sun and heat :)

BTW, I think you were being sensible

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was really 50:50 as to whether to go or not

Found there is another local show next Monday so decided the best thing would be to give today a miss, our classes were due to start at 1 so would have been at the hotest part of the day and I think we would both have got so hot and miserable it would have ruined the fun.
