Morning all,

Some of you will have followed Rosie’s journey this year and will know it started off terribly. A bucking horse, vets bills and discovery of arthritis in one pastern... but bucking turned out to be the saddle. I decided to ride the horse and not the x-rays and keep her wrapped in cotton wool but she’s not lame and on no medication.

Then corona hit and on the suggestion of some good, experienced friends I decided to put her in foal. Vet is positive the arthritis is from an old injury and happy that she could carry a foal without pain. The foal is for me not for anyone else, and all pros and cons have been weighed up, I know some of you may disapprove but this was not done on a whim and unguided. She’s in foal to Challenge a beautiful KWPN Grade A Showjumper, pictures below.

Getting her in foal was a nightmare but on the third go, she was in foal and all going well.

She came back from stud and back into work and has gone the best she’s ever gone. Apparently pregnancy suits her. She’s been XC schooling and proved to be great at it. Tomorrow is the last thing I intend to do with her before I wind her down for “maternity leave” and it’s also our first 90cm at a competition. I’m very nervous but I’ll be okay tomorrow once I’m on. Please wish us luck for our last event of the year, which is also a milestone after a year of ups and downs. I’m fairly hopeful that tomorrow will be okay given how she jumped yesterday. Pics below

Good luck for the show and the maternity leave.

I'd love to breed my own foal but it's never going to happen! So.... jealous.... but please post updates and pictures!!

How exciting! Both mum and dad are stunning. I think the foal will be absolutely beautiful.

Thank you. She absolutely has her faults and certainly is not foundation mare of a stud material but she has a temperament and attitude to die for, has reasonable conformation and has a good jumping ability. Dad is just a hunk though! ?

Well what a way to end the year. The 90cm debut went better than I could have hoped. I had hoped just to survive but not only did we go clear but placed 5th hanging onto the top spot until the horses also competing in the 1metre appeared. Not as forward as at home but neat and tidy and tried her heart out! So chuffed. Now she can relax hacking for a bit then enjoy the big field to grow the foal!

Lovely to see a mare still working when pregnant, it really does wonders for their muscles and strength going into foaling. She’s a lovely mare and the foal is definitely going to be a useful all rounder type.

Thank you. That’s the plan. A slightly sportier all rounder for me. And yeh, she’s stepping down from full on work to just hacking now but mainly because I’ve decided to remove the pressure of keeping her fit on the dark nights!
