In November I started to ride again after a long break, this coincided with my OH loaning and then buying a 7 year old rather green Newfie gelding. He and I have been progressing together including getting over some pretty classic napping.
Bit by bit we have gone further and further together, but he has never had quite the nerve nor confidence in me to finally leave the village. This bit means walking about 120 yards beyond the furthest part of the village which can accommodate a circular route.
A couple of weeks ago my OH managed to get him out of the village and about another two miles up the road, which was a major step and this evening I managed to get him right round the woods, where he has only ever been in company, and usually with my OH's mare, who is his field companion.
It was not the prettiest riding you have ever seen, but we did it, and I am very pleased with him, as he and I really seem to have a trusting bond.
Aren't they fantastic when they make you feel proud...just like kids
