Hi everyone just wondering if someone could help me out? I have a horse who gets very nervous whilst travelling, I was going to start trying to do some short trips with him to build up his confidence but unfortunatley as it turns out he has to go for a bone scan which is about an hours trip away.
I will travel him with an older, calm horse who is a field friend but could really do with something to take the edge off him to make the whole thing less stressful for us all.

I obviously don't want to give him anything too strong as don't want his balance affected. So I was thinking of the equine america so kalm paste, has anyone had any experiences with this? Is it good? Will it be too strong for travelling or strong enough to make any difference? Any other recommendations are very welcome.
Thanks in advance for your help. I know he is going to ind the whole thing very tough but it is unavoidable as he has suspected kissing spine :( but will do anything to make it less stressful for the poor guy.

It could help might be worth a trial run first to see how it affects him though as some horses it does little to and others it has very strong effects one.
The also do a stronger one called so kalm plus just in syringe form.

Finally you mentioned KS, some horses with this have trouble travelling because of it so they are actually in pain hence the stress when travelling.

Might be worth trying him in something that faces a different way from what you've already tried?

Sorry I mean I know two with KS that can't travel facing backwards but are happy as larry herringbone. Someone else on here has a KS horse that is only comfy travelling facing backwards.

Just a thought.

In my opinion none of the 'over counter' calmers work (most vets would agree). Surely the correct dose of Sedalin would do the trick, your vet will be able to advise you of the dose so that your horse travels safely.
