My yard owner is looking to extend her yard so she can take on more liveries, however the land she was hoping to purchase at the end of the year has just been ploughed.

So, basically all I was wondering is how long, generally, does it take for ploughed land to be restored to pasture? I tried google and couldnt find much..

Thanks :)

My brother restored one of our field to pasture a few years ago. It was ploughed and reseeded in the autumn. The following year he took two cuts of hay from it and let a few cattle graze it for a few weeks when it was very dry in the autumn. The following year it was mowed again and grazed by cattle when the ground was dry.He wouldn't hear of horses going anywhere ear it for two years! To be fair, it is in fantastic condition now so I have to say I think he was right, horses do a lot of damage to newly laid grass.

If she gets it seeded soon after whatever crop I assume they are goung to sow for this year gets cut then there will be grass through with reasonable roots by spring. It should then have at least one cut of hay taken before horses graze it so that the roots have a chance to get properly established before the horses try to tear it up but a lot of people see the grass in spring and just start using it which is not good for long term use. Once the grass comes through its going to depend on the YO and if they decide to get the money from having more liveries in before the grass is properly ready.
