Following my previous posts, can any of you recommend a lovely, friendly, supportive yard, with a good quality school and glorious hacking within about 20 minutes drive or within approximately 18 miles radius from Portsmouth.

Also cost, not too expensive, only an NHS employee ;) Oh, oh, and he needs all round turnout, ideally to live out all year, but if not with minimal stabling during the winter.

This is step 2 in my quest to get my confidence back and enjoy Archie once more so any help/suggestions are appreciated.

I would also welcome a response from someone who perhaps keeps their own at home and would like company, support and so on. I am very easy going, never moody and just love to spend time with my boy and happy hacking.

Aw hun, I really think this would be a great thing for you. Like I said, it completely turned my life around being on the right yard. I hope you find what you need. Sorry I can't be more helpful, living so far away... although I wish you were closer.

Thanks for your support, Soph and also for pulling my post from the bowels of the forum ... I feared it was lost forever without one reply.

Someone must be able to help xxx

Have you tried putting an advert in local tack shops, or on NFED? Ask at places like Crofton for contacts of private livery yards. What happened to the stables that used to be HMS Dryad...are they a private yard now? Or Fort Widley (although hacking from there would be ****) Try driving around areas you like with access to bridleways or country parks and looking for potential yards or people out riding and stop and ask them? I'm over in the New Forest and actually replied to one of your ads on NFED when I was looking for a loan horse. We have space for another but its a 40 min drive from Portsmouth, amazing hacking though with access to the open forest.

This is a wonderful idea. Like Soph said, being at the right place can make all the difference.

Have you tried to look in local tack shops and have a little drive around?
I found my first yard in Bristol by simply driving around, and in turn it has led me a bit further into south glos, not by much, literally 5-10minutes and I am in a wonderful area which I love.

I hope you find somewhere soon, and keep us posted x

Another vote for having a look on NFED. There are some gorgeous ones around Bishops Waltham if your willing to go a bit further out. Or Rowlands Castle, Hambledon, or Denmead areas also great.

Lots around so good luck :D

Oldwick Livery yard in West Lavant might be worth a look, not too sure on prices though. Lavant House would fit ideally in terms of facilities and turnout but it's expensive for that very reason ;)

I'm at Oldwick and love it :)
The prices are:
130 per month for field/stable
7.50 x 5 days per week to pay for livery costs. It's DIY during the weekend, unless you want to pay 7.50 for the horses to be done for you.
Bedding/feed e.t.c. is not included, although in winter months we are paying 10ish pounds per week as we are sharing hayledge to make it cheaper.

Its a BHS approved yard too.

Turnout is 24/7 in summer, winter they are stabled at night.
We've got a nice outdoor school plus jumps too. A fab instructor (Ian Wright) visits a few times a month too to teach those that want, but of course you can have your own instructors too.

Hacking is great - we are just on the foot of the downs and with minimal roadwork, or you can hack around the farm and which means no roadwork.

If you have any questions just drop me a line.

Good luck in your search!
