Just been to ride my boy he is 5 turned 5 two weeks ago, in during the day out at night. Feed 3/4 scoup ride and relax same alpha A twice a day and a large haylage net.

Got on him tonight and he rodeo best way to describe it up the long side of the school we had not walked more than 2 strides when this happened. He has done this once before and I cut the sugerbeet and cut the haylage. It is also very windy here.

So my question which I know answer to but need someone to tell me Im right is to cut his feed and haylage again, and to also lunge before I ride.

Pls tell me he is feeling good about himself etc, he had back,saddle,teeth all done less than 6 weeks ago

If you have had all the relevant areas checked, teeth,back and saddle as you mention, maybe he has just got it about him, the wind does get up alot of horses tails.

Perhaps try lunging him before on both reins and watch him for any signs, then if all seems well, have a little go.
Its hard to say, but it could just be the wind, but it may be something else, like he doesnt like his bit etc,just an idea
 
iwould look at the composite of what your feeding, some horses react to alpha A, and i would check the ride and relax, i wouldnt put it down to hayledge and/or sugarbeet
 
Has the sugarbeet got molasses in it? Little Cob reacts like a loop fruit if there be molasses in that there beet

Also, the grass is pretty good at sending them loopy at the moment.
 
if he is looking well and has no other problems (back, teeth etc) then maybe change his feed? it would be hard to advise what to change to without more info but most of the big feed companies have advice lines you could call.
 
If he's only ever done it once before then I'd put it down to the weather & maybe feeling a bit too good. The grass is really growing now so it may well be that he doesn't need any extra feed so I'd cut it out, or at least dramatically reduce it, for a while.

Why is he is during the day? If possible I'd throw him out 24/7 & see if that helps.
 
If he has no pain then I would be cutting the feed back, if he has so much energy that he can rodeo and mess about he would seem to be getting more than enough from the grass. There are quite a few getting a bit sharp now the grass is hitting them

I would be speaking to one of the feed nutritionists. Baileys or Spillers etc as I personally would be making some changes to his diet.
It would be an idea to turn him out more but watch his weight if you do and yes I would pop him on the lunge first for a little while just whilst he gets his yee haa out of the way.
Do you ride him before he goes out or when he comes in? Also just remember he's still a young horse and there is nothing wrong with being a baby and having a hoolie now and again. It's all part of growing up.

When you started getting the feed in when you took the yard over, do you remeber i took him of the Alfa A.

Flint didnt bronk like you describe Bo did, but he fetl so strong and full of it.

Prehaps the summer grass and the Alfa A is a bit too much.

Hope Bo is back to normal soon
