Elem. 50

There is a slim chance I'll do it. As she said the thing I really need to work on now ridden to help the driving is collection and 'extension'. And she reconed the worst we could do is come last, or fall off neither of which are the end of the world but.......I'm not sure I'm allowed, but it would be unaff. Might take Ginga as well, but in a different class, unless she bullies me into doing it on him.

Still LOL at the whole idea, shouldn't think there withh be many 1/4 hackney ponies in the class, with nupty riders, with no tie and short boots and cheap GP saddle rather than stock, longboots and dressage saddle.
MMM any one know what elem. 50 actually includes, other than simple changes, collected work

Elem has 20m trot circles, 10m trot circles, medium trot, walk, fwlr, collected canter, 10m canter circles, medium canter and 20m canter circle whilst allowing the horse to stretch down, think thats it

Oh and 2 simple changes on 10m 1/2 circles

Thanks

Thats what I thought, but we havve not got the time really, I can get to one show between now and the start of the outdoor driving season, and all I need to work no for that is thoses things.

Oh well, think I can do all the thing, need to go out and try it, clearly I'm not going to do well, but it would be more worth while thandoing a novice or prelim and doing well, apparently!

lots of collected canter , simple changes , medium to collected transitions

as said before it does seem like a big leap from a bottom end prelim to a top end elem , personally i don't get what your instructor is trying to achieve unless she feels that you really are ready from elem , in which case why has she had you doing bottom end prelim?

also if your horse is not ready whats the point , you would be better off spending your time & money on training? if he isn't ready you will tend to find that shortcomings in the basics are much more heavily penalised at elem than novice

Not got the time for what??? Do you NEED to do an elementary test for somthing?

I think if you talk to people on here who are doing higher level dressage, they would tell you its quite a change from prelim to elementary from the movements to even the horses way of going. As above, i dont quite get what you trainer is trying to achieve??

Go for it - dressage isn't your be all and end all, driving is. So if working your horse at that level is good for your driving then do it! If you're anything like me you probably need a competitive goal to make you do the work at home, so of course it's alright to do this test. As you say the worst that can happen is you come last, and that doesn't kill anybody.

We did bottom end prelim, about 8 months ago because it was his first ever ridden show.

Quite simply the trainer is trying to acheive some practice of the collection/WT/medium in a competitive enviroment. I don't NEED to do a elem. test, but doing a novice test won't help with what I need to work on for driving. For my driving dressage test (used at all big events) this year I have collected for over half the test, extended for most of the rest, rein back 4 meters, one handed circles etc.

I don't have the time to go to a show to do novice, if I wanted to do well, I'd give Prelim another go, but if I want to actually get some proper practise of the trot transitions, elem. is the way to go.

I could spend the money on more training, but at home he has got to the level where further progression will not help his driving hardly atall, TBH not sure what we would work on next, I suppose more lateral work, and more complex changes, but a driving pony get no advantage from either of them. At home his collection is pretty good IMO, all transitions are very sharp, but occasionally tense, and he is making good start at extension, but his medium is presentable. Is there counter canter in Elem. 50, as that may cause a problem, although his changes are good, and reliable when you want they are currently 'work man' like.
still pondering it though...
