Ive seen a horse on a dealers website that im really keen on but its POA. I can leave them a message via the website but I dont know what your meant to say.

Can i just straight out ask what they are asking for the horse or do i have to arrange a viewing etc before they would tell me. I suspect the horse is probably double what i was planning to spend but i just want to know so I can either put it out of my mind or maybe look at if my budget is too low.

Thanks!

i would just ask straight out otherwise you may be wasting your time.

i emailed about a POA foal about a month ago expecting around £6k- it was £12k!!!

Maybe ask them what price they were expecting?

Yip I would just come right out and ask.

I always POA were always really dear but I ohoned up about one ages ago and it was half the price I suspected. So you never Know.

I always hate POA - in the past, it actually put me off ringing up about horses. Just say that you would like to know the price they have in mind, as you wouldn't want to waste their time and yours, if the price is way out of your budget. Remember, in this economical climate though, what people are asking and what they are actually getting, can be quite too different things and it doesn't hurt to be cheeky!

thanks guys, ill send them a message just asking what they want for it.

Once ive got an answer there may be an 'how much is it worth?' post following shortly!

I think its perfectly reasonable to ask "how much" There's no point in carrying on the conversation if it is out of your price range. That applies equally to both buyer and seller.

I hate it and tend to look elsewhere when I see POA most POA sellers are rogues and chancers, they try to talk what there selling up before giving you a price that makes your eyes water or they try to imbarase you into guessing how much they want then belittling you when offer what you considder to be a fair price, or they say sorry that one is sold but we have another simalar but better. I would ring and ask how much without any other questions first then get on with other details it saves a lot of time unless you like talking to idiots... hope this helps... good luck...

That's a very sweeping statement! There's often a good reason for using POA - particularly with young horses. For example, we back a youngster and advertise him at £x, he may not sell for several months - and during that time there'll be a LOT more work put in and he may show an unexpected talent that makes him worth more. So we re-advertise for £y. But the ad may be cached and the old price turns up when people are searching. THEN they think you're trying it on!

I sort of understand what your saying re youngstock but why not say£ offers around X as of date and price will increase with training and or show results?? now we advertise on the net there is no reason not to put a full descrpition and terms in an advert!! not like the old days trying to get every thing into 20 or so words for a clasified slot....

I agree with this. I quite understand why people wouldn't want to put a firm price on youngstock but a ballpark figure with an explanation that the price will rise with training etc is much better IMO than POA. At least then you know if the price is likely to be closer to 2k than 20k!
