Hi all.

Once it dries out (I know!!! Never!!) I need to sort my paddocks out. I only have 2.5 acres, I am on clay and even if farmer is available to harrow or roll it's usually still too wet in places and to dry in others. Therefore I want to purchase a harrow so I can do it but by bit when dry enough. I will be towing behind a 4x4 .. I've had one in the past but it was too light and small to have much effect so sold it.

Options are fixed or 3 way tine, I poo pick and don't have any dead stuff to pull out so I'm thinking fixed tine !! I've seen a 6ft (car width) x 10ft long one which might fit the bill as would be heavier.

Suggestions, comments, or even better links or recommendations if anyone has the time ?

Just to add I have a small roller already.

Arenamate grass harrows.

Brilliant things, we tow ours behind a SORN’d 4x4. Far more effective than chain harrows. We’ve had ours for at least 10 years. You can raise them up if you need to cross between fields etc if you need to without the tines digging in.

Like you, we have to harrow the land over the course of a number of days (or weeks, eek) as it dries out.

Thanks tiddlypom, I did look at those but wondered if the tines would break and if it would actually spread any clay chunks ? How wide is it ?

They come in 1.5m and 2.0m widths, pretty sure that mine are the wider ones. They are easy to hitch/unhitch but take some hauling when harrowing - the drag is much greater than with chain harrows. You can see the fuel level gauge on the tow vehicle going down…

The tines are sprung and very beefy, I’ve never had one get out of shape, let alone break. It’s a serious piece of kit.

I’m not on clay, though.
