WHY don’t jackets have decent pockets these days?

Are you, like me, fed up with those silly slanted zipped ones? If you put so much as a hankie in one, it manages to fall out – if not get chewed up in the zip. I can’t be the only person in the world who wishes to PUT THINGS IN MY POCKETS!

A swift check of what I have in (and regularly falling out of) my coat pockets:

1. Hankie (usually plural)
2. Piece of baler twine (picked up from where it would be a trip hazard)
3. Penknife
4. Mobile phone
5. Packet of mints
6. A bent electric fence insulator/rusty nail or similar found in a gateway
7. Dog biscuits
8. Horse treats
9. Odd gloves as one of each pair always falls out of pocket and is never seen again
10. Keys

And there’s no space for my hands when it’s cold and my gloves have fallen out of my pockets yet again.

It’s not too much to ask, surely or do ‘they’ think we carry handbags to put all our stuff in when we’re mucking out stables, pooh-picking or riding?

What do YOU have in your coat pockets?

Where DO gloves migrate to in the spring?

I have much the same as you in my pockets, plus a lipsyl (and yes the damn things are getting smaller). I tend to throw my gloves in the boot with my hat now, having lmysteriously ost so many single ones.

What amazes me is that the piece of baler twine always seems to have gone awol when you actually need it to tie up electric fence poles or something when you are up the field in a hurricane and cannot face having to walk all the way back to the stables, through the deep mud to get some string.

QR I would recommend getting a dog-training jacket or waistcoat - they have multiple mahoosive pockets front and back (to accommodate balls, food, leads etc) and are equally as good for horsey people

My old barbour, from back in the days when barbour made horse clothes not just fashion accessories for the chelsea tractor brigade my jacket had big patch pockets for putting stuff in and little hand warmers behind them for keeping your hands warm.

Brilliant design, my down coat had the same design too, you never see it these days though.

My current down jacket has a big zip pocket in the chest though for putting an os map in though....... handy but makes you look a bit misshapen if you put bulky stuff in there!

It is not only jackets! Finding trousers, skirts or shirts with pockets that allows you to f.ex. have a handkerchief handy when you have a cold, is becoming more and more rare.

Do it yourself, soon feels like the only option

I have the Bedale and I will hang on to it until the bitter end! With the big deep front pockets and the moleskin hand-warmers, they are awesome.
