I'm about to head off with my daughter and try to get one of these fitted.

They are obviously a massive expense. Does anyone's children have them? Do they get used much? Do they spend all thier time jumping off and forgetting to unplug?

My daughter is 11 - very slight so we might not be able to get one small enough anyway. She competes XC / ODE at local and PC level. She also hunts. (And SJ - although I presume she won't use it for that!)

On one hand - what price her back and neck? The safety reports are compelling. On the other hand - I'm not forking out nearly £400 for something that doesn't get worn until it gets grown out of!

Anyone any experience?

I went with my friend to their stand at Hickstead to ask them about it for our children. They don't do children's sizes, the smallest they did was a 'adult small' which fitted my 5ft 3' size 10/12 ish friend (not the child) fine - perhaps a little long. They said that you have to be 6 stone to set it off though and that rules out many children, obviously. So unless your child is 5ft 3' plus and weighs more that 6 stone, you won't get one to fit. And even then I guess it still might not fit right as children are differently built than adults.

They did say that there was demand for Point 2's for children and they were thinking about developing children's ones.

I got a press relase saying they had reelased the children's sizes a couple of weeks ago. I think it was also in H&H.

However having trekked up to local supplier - no trip to a tack shop ever wasted! - it turns out the children sizes won't be available until september. The lowest weight will be 4 stone and smallest height 90 cms - so they will fit.

Ho hum... guess no-one will have any children with expereince of them then. On the other hand - 3 more weeks to save up!

I recently looked into getting a jacket but there were too many unanswered questions as to their safety in different circumstances for me. There is potential for more serious injuries in some instances so i wont be getting one. Part of my homework read the many threads on here- do a search for more info.

Yes we have. My daughter is 15 but the small size was perfect for her when she was younger. We picked them up at Badminton and despite being busy they took time to fit them properly for her and for me. I compete so its a no brainer and my daughter hacks but finds the jacket much better to wear than body armour. Neither of us will hack out without it now
