Point-to-point

i out a post in the common room, but was told it would be better suited for in here, so here goes...

for my work experience im going to a private yard. they have 8 horses in total, 4 of which are point-to-pointers.

was just wondering, what is a point-to-point. i under stand that it is racing but not sure what type??

anybody explain to me??

its racing, run by local hunts for 'amateurs' (most decent trainers are semi proffesional/proffesional now, but they cannot hold a full training license... doesn't mean thier father/bother/wife can't though, so the horses tend to be fairly decent in the open races) All ridden by amateur jockeys i.e they also can't hold a proffesional jocky's license, tends to be a stepping stone for alot of jump jockeys, Open race horses are almost all aiming for hunter chase & foxhunter races, which are if you like the top drawer for pointers trained by amatuers
