Mum has just sent off my horses registration forms to point to point. We are just ordering silks now etc so want to know if there are any other little things he will need? (I know he will need saddle etc and all the big things) but need to know of all the small little things we could need?

eek so excitting

Paddock sheet and roller, possibly browband in your colours (if not too brash!).
Good long solid lead rein, good leather is smarter; possibly a coupling too. Teach your horse to walk out well when led, neither pulling on or pulling back; it's a nightmare if it doesn't do this well in the paddock!
Chamois leather to go under saddle
Breastplate (essential in my eyes!)

Ask someone experienced in saddling racehorses to show you how it should be done, it is an art and to not do it properly might mean an accident.

Vicjp is really the one you want answering this!

Will pm vicijp.....will have someone experienced on the day, but saddle him at home etc.
Will defintiely get a new breastplate. My horse is experienced so hopefully should be a good boy in the parade ring.

You don't mean "saddle him at home on the day" do you? You will only need to do him half hour before your race at the most especially if you have to carry weight; it is not really on to travel him already saddled even if you do for hunting.

That's something I forgot, a weightcloth and various small pieces of lead to go in it. You need to take it all with you for the Clerk of the Scales to get your weight right.

Another trick is to make sure you always exercise and work with the race weight so that it's not a shock to your horse which could be the difference between a place and an also ran!

I don't know how early your races are but it would be a good idea to go to other pt t pt's and watch and learn how things are done from in the horse lines, to the paddock to walking the course and what should be done for your horse after the race too. You can't beat being fore-warned!
