I am currently house sitting for a friend with their (at least) 12 year old border terrier cross who had a stroke a year ago. He is ok now but does tend to slip over on one side.
Decided to take him for a short midnight walk before bed and he loved it! Was so good to see him so sprightly. I guess everything smells much more exciting after a good downpour and at an unusual time to be out.

Lovely post to read, glad to hear about an older dog still enjoying life.

I haven't thought about if my bitches want to sniff things more, if I take them for a walk at an unusual time, but I can definitely ditto that things smells (to them) much more interesting after raining. Nowadays, I usually remember that if I take them for a walk, and it hasn't dried up completely after raining, either the walk will be shorter or it will take longer time, because I always have to stand still and wait for them a lot more, whilst they sniff both here and there for much longer time than usual.

:)
