I'm doing my trailer towing test on Monday, have spent loads on lessons but now am not sure why I'm bothering, could have just saved my money and bought a little lorry! I don't have a 4x4 so would have to buy one and a trailer and this will all come to enough to buy a little box so feel a bit stupid and wish I'd thought this all through properly! I hate tests, am really nervous and am not sure why I'm doing it even now!! AGGHH!

But once you have bought a 4x4 and trailer couldnt u use the 4x4 as your main car to save money that way - and then there arent really any additional running costs other than insurance. I had the same quandry u did when i did my trailer test but replaced my car with a jeep and now it doesnt really cost me anything extra.
The trailer test really isnt that bad - and i really thought they were fairly lenient in places as long as you are confident and able to reverse etc you will be fine x oh and dont clip any kerbs!
