Was it really a good idea to camp in polar bear country in the summer when the ice is melted and they are hungry?

From what I hear they had followed all the recomended safety proceedures, unfortunately they failed - tragic accident.

If you look at the stat you are most at risk driving. A lad got killed in this region on a school trip Adue to a branch falling on him in a country park. We have to get it into perspective. These kids were on a scientific expedition. I am sure a lot of the money they pay to do these things goes towards valuable research, and how are we going to train conservationists and scientists of the future if they dont do these things?

Nothing on Earth would persuade me to camp in polar bear regions, alarmed or not.Having seen these wonderful animals close up in the wild I soon realised to them we are potential lunch, they fear nothing and combined with their enormous curiosity it makes them truly lethal. And truly fantastic too, easily my favourite animal.
