Now I realise that most eyes aren't on the horses and their tack but how accurate is the portrayal of the tack cos the saddles look v modern to me...

As above- I hadn't really noticed the saddles - but that poor old horse - all he seems to do is canter up and down endlessly along the cliff top....bless him. I've also noticed it never seems to rain in Poldark country ?

Haha I thought that too. And usually with two people on him!

Haha I keep saying that to Mum! "I hope he doesn't spook! He'll be over the edge!" "How about a little walk, Poldark?" "I don't think you need to canter him right up to the building.."

I joke, I love it! I can't say I've noticed the saddle either. As lovely as he is as Mr. P, he'll always be Kili to me <3

When he canters along the cliff edge, OH and I always say in unison, "not again" is it the same clip they use repeatedly or does that poor horse have to keep cantering backwards and forwards?

Have you lot not discovered the joy of Clifftop Bingo? Every time Seamus cruises along the clifftop the first caller gets a piece of chocolate! Favourite game of the week in our house.

Tack is fairly accurate for the time, bridles and saddles haven't really changed that much in last few hundred years!
Seamus and Aiden are apparently good mates according to Aiden's twitter and Seamus' too!
I like to think of Poldark as NY weekly dose of countryside porn! Hmm strapping man on equally strapping horse .......

brilliant, I might have to start watching it again - it was annoying me on episode 2 as I live by myself...

re tack, my saddler blames the grooms, for not really worrying about what gets put on, he has insisted on being on set during his next film ;).

It should definitely be peeing with rain more though.

Poldark's saddle looked like an Aussie stock saddle to me!
His uncle ( in the scene where he tried to get on a cob) had a very modern looking dressage saddle.

There was an interview with Mr T in a Sunday Magazine this week in which it was stated that he could ride/was a good rider. He doesn't seem that good to me.......poor horse with him bumping about in the saddle all the time!

He seems good at canter and gallop but his rising trot is a bit dodgy. Mind you, since rising trot didn't exist then...

Yeah, I thought exactly the same but given that tack back then was less forgiving to horses (narrow gullet, pretty much one size fits all) I'm sure the comfort of the horses is first and foremost in the mind of the Master of Horse they have empoyed. Modern tack is nothing really given that they have CGI'd the roofs and workings, even entire buildings, in the outdoor mine scenes and even the sea in places- the house used as Ross's must be up towards Bodmin Moor because only properties up there have huge storm porches like that (plus the landscape and vegetation is a big clue) and the last time I looked Bodmin Moor did not benefit from sea views!!
