Pole/Jump distances...

Sorry, i'm really crap at remembering my pole and jump distances and need to do some training tonight...can you lovely people on here give me some ideas of distances...poles on flat, grid, double etc??? Oh big horsey strides

A one strided double is 8 paces and a two strided double is 12 paces.

Trotting poles i got told were about 4ft but i dont really go by that.

I also got told that a horse lands & takes off 2 paces away from a jump and one stride of canter is 4 paces.

Hope that makes sense and helps a bit, if not just tell me to be quite he he

It depends on the pace of the approach, but from a trot you should be looking at a placing pole somewhere in the region of 3.5 yards (paces) from the fence, from a canter 4 yards. You can adjust the distance to cater for the way the horse is dealing with the fence
