I am needing to start doing some proper schooling exercises with Jack and someone suggested raised pole work. The yard I'm at has wonderful jump wings and poles etc but to be honest I am rather lazy and couldn't be bothered lugging in 8 jump wings in order to do a set of 4 poles. Found these things on the web and wondered if they are as good as they seem?

I have a set of these would recommend getting two sets for any decent amount of pole work but they are easy to use, can be a little unstable but i get on fine with them with my youngster.

should have mentioned they would be used in a sand arena - would you think they'd just disappear into the sand and not actually raise the pole any? it is harrowed and rolled on an almost daily basis so isn't deep in anyway.

I love them! I use them in a rubber/sand arena and they don't sink, they really make George pick his feet up and he seems to enjoy the change! Definately get 2 sets if you can.

an easier thing to do is to get a small block of wood, and just saw a v shape into the top of it for the poles to lay- voila, a fifth of the price and just as effective!!

Theyre ok, not great, ideally you need the height of two to make any pole raised to a useful height and unless your poles are heavy then they just ping out!
Much easier using the smaller heights on the jump blocks IMO

LOL! Kat!
You have a good memory!

I did buy them - lots of them with great intentions but spent the ENTIRE schooling sessions rebuilding/propping the poles as they are really unstable and easily knocked off - I used them on a sand school - thought the idea was genius but I think that they need a little bit of adjusting (like weighting/sand/water filled etc to make them more substantial!)
In the end I reverted back to upturned traffic cones! LOL!
