Police are investigating the death of two horses in an Ilkeston field.
A member of the public called officers to Quarry Hill Road on Sunday afternoon, after discovering the animals.
Officers contacted the owner of the horses and they were removed from the field.
Post mortem examinations will be carried out but police believe their deaths to be suspicious.
Officers are appealing for witnesses and are urging horse owners to be vigilant.
