So I am curious. I put this question on my Facebook page and by and large got the replies I expected. So now I am just wondering if it's different on your side of the pond???

This, btw, doesn't include horses that jump out of their fields, nor does it count as green beans sailing multiple feet over poles on the ground.

I would even say this is only meant to ask about actual jump schools, either xc or in ring, but not purpose driven cavaletti work.

Em

In general max once a week for an actual jump session although poles are done more frequently.

In a quiet spell not unreasonable to not jump for 10-14 days. If prepping for something important might do 2 in 10 days.

For me it's hugely horse dependant. One of mine is seriously spooky xc so will school her midweek if I'm planning on competing. I have had occasions where I haven't jumped for months and then been out competing on a fairly established horse but would normally like to have reminded them of the drill recently.
I rarely jump more than once a week unless working on something specific and competing that week then I might even jump three times.
I regularly only jump once a month and would expect to still be able to happily jump round a course.

I have to trailer out to jump atm so approx once a fortnight - less really allowing for weather / flu type interruptions. I'll probably aim for once a week when we have jumps in the field - depending on ground.

I wouldn't jump a horse routinely more than once a week (on average), unless I had a specific work plan - e.g. popping over one or two fences only at the end of every session - for a specific training issue.

My pony is extremely spooky so I jump her about 2/3 times a week. Don't worry, they're mostly 30cm-50cm.
I am trying to build up size but Welsh is VERY spooky so she doesn't jump new jumps :rolleyes:

With Jay he would go twice a week if not competing, or once if he was. But, I live next to an arena and could hire for just half an hour, so some sessions would be a warm up, 12 jumps and finish. The first few would be a X pole, then an upright or two then an oxer, then string a few together and go home happy.

Hack the few hundred yards there, warm up and jumping all completed in 20 minutes, finish by a hack round the village and home.

I would not do a full jump session as often.

Depends on the horse. When Harry was alive, as he was established he would jump once, the week before a show ( he was pure SJ), If its a youngster/ green id aim for 1 x jump lesson a week ( if something went wrong / needed consolidating in that lesson, then it would be twice ) . As for our irish draughts, my girl gets jumped probably once a fortnight /sometimes once month usually in a lesson. Purely because ive too much on my plate and need to sell a couple so I can find the time to ride her more.

As a 4.5 year old he was jumped once every two weeks. He now jumps once a week, or twice a week absolute max - just turned 5. He's 14.2 and the fences don't go over a metre.

Mine jump 2-3 times a week - normally once at home and then a show at the weekend. Height depends on what we’re doing

If we’re having issues we might do something every day, eg one fence with a ‘scary’ filler a few times each day.

Once a week max. I don't usually jump four year olds at all, but only ever tiny things and no more than once a month.

Once a week if not competing. Twice a week if one jump includes a comp. though it is prettt haphazard as sometimes I might not jump for two weeks then go for a comp

Once a week, normally at a comp or lesson at the weekend. When the jumps go up in the field at home I will probably put another session in the week, just to remind him not to be spooky!

I don’t jump anymore, but my jumping ponies used to do two sessions a week. A competition would count as a session though, so if we were competing that weekend, they would jump once more later in the week.

In terms of properly training, not very often at all as horse is established.

In terms of having a pop to cheer up the end of a boring (in his eyes) flatwork session, perhaps 3 times a fortnight. We'll also pop logs when hooning around our fields too.

I'd say 9 out of the 10 times we leave the ground it's for fun and nothing strenuous rather than an actual training session/competition.

now the eventing season has started, usually once a week and that would be at a BE and then when it wasn't eventing it may be pure showjumping comp/ XC schooling / SJ arena hire/ or a pop at home depending on what needs working on. Occasionally it may be twice a week if there has been an issue and occasionally like to give a two week break during the season where this allows. In school holidays (he is my daughters 10yr old 14.2hh pony and established at BE100, ) it may be a little more but would be a mix of XC and SJ and rallies etc.

Depends on the horse
But once or twice a week would be usual when a horse was competing .
This week my horse jumped wed and thurs and will train again on Monday .
It’s does vary a lot my best horse never needed jumping once competitions started she was at her best very very fresh and sharp she was super sharp and very very careful .
I have had others that where best with a pop almost everyday I have to say these where perhaps not the best horses .

Ours don't jump at home a huge amount, but I might do a lesson and a competition in the same week, and son and pony jump more often, sometimes three times.

Other weeks they may not jump at all.
