Someone I know is looking at doing show photography and wants to get some feedback.
She is a good photographer but would like to know what format people would be most interested in buying.

I get photos whenever I can as they are a nice reminder of your competitions, they show the progress you and your horse are making and if you decided to sell the horse in the future, you have something to show potential purchasers.

I love getting pics of the XC phase but they are damn expensive!! My mum bought us a very posh SLR camera last christmas so I now drag hubby with me when I can and he's taken some fab pics....lot cheaper as well, only costs me a bacon sandwich!!

I should also have said that in her terms and copyright she does not need asking for permission if you want to use them on a blog or post on forums websites etc as long as there is something saying she took the photo!!

I like to get photos at events but it depends on how good the photo is- if its a nice photo I will buy it. If not I don't bother.

Ditto - I didn't answer question one as that was my thought too. I don't really mind paying if they're good - although would prefer it to be under £10 a photo if possible!

The CD is a good idea, but only if I liked several photos, otherwise wouldn't be worth it. Good idea to offer the option though.

I am actually addicted to buying photos! It's a very expensive habit which I'm trying to cut back on hehe. Just think they're such a nice reminder and a way of looking back at what you've achieved.

I have a digital SLR wilth Hubby in tow although if indoor the good old cam corder comes out. he tends to cover different fences to the photographer so might buy one but only if they are resonably priced!!

I do dressage an as yet have never ever had a nice photo taken of me by a proffesional mainly because they're rare as hen's teeth at the dressage shows round here.
If you go jumping then there's always photographers, so if she's going to take photo's at dressage shows I reckon she could be onto a winner as long as she knows a bit about horses and what makes a nice dressage shot.
THe one time there was a photographer all the photos of me were hideous, or perhaps thats just my riding.

Personally I never buy them - too expensive.

My dad has a professional standard digital SLR and takes much better quality photos and the cost overall is much cheaper - also I ca then Photoshop any telegraph poles etc out of the way.

My lad is jet black and tbh he is a beggar to get photo'd well

it depends if i like the photo...then down to price-a lot of the time i go anywhere..jumps wise they pick the bloomin boring/smallest fence on the course!!

I nearly always get at least one piccie if there is a photographer at shows - usually at least 1 pic looks good. With my previous horse I only used to buy them if they looked really special but then when she was killed unexpectedly in a road accident I really wished I'd bought every pic that was ever taken of her so now I tend to get the best pic of the group taken at each show.
Mind I only ever look at how the horse is going - ie if she's making a nice shape over the jump etc and then often find once they are printed out that I've got some hideous gurning face on - but we can't have everything - LOL!

I love buying them though I always look white as a sheet! The problem I have is the quality of the printing isn't always that good as they don't use a good enough printer I find, so it is for this reason that I would like a CD. Upload it on to Kodak for example and get perfect prints so much cheaper!!!

It doesn't depend on price so much as how good the pic is. If myself and my horse look good in the picture then I'll buy it. Ive never bought a dressage pic because we always look crap, but I have bought SJ / XC ones - mainly XC.

The best way I like ordering is when they put them all on a website for viewing, you just click on whichever one then pay for it online (via Paypal or whatever) and they just email it to you in a high resolution so you can print off however many you want. So quick and easy.

I will only buy professional picutres at events if they are really good quality and show my horse off.

Unfortunately, there is only one venue near me that does them, and they are not that brilliant. They don't seem to catch the horse at the right time etc.

Hopefully there will be a professional photographer at the regionals so I should be albe to get some good ones then.

Just realised, I haven't got any photo's of my boy - must get some soon!

I'm also addicted to buying photos.

But, wish that some photographers would take the pics at the biggest and most impressive jumps, not the smallest and boring ones, which I won't buy!

Would be lovely to have some dressage pics, think I've only ever seen one taken of me in 10yrs!

Same here!
I did an unaffiliated dressage championship thing a few years ago, and I left an order with the video guy for the basic bog standard cheap video, and two weeks later the fully edited and enhanced DVD arrived, no way I would of paid £35 quid for it but it was a lovely bonus!

I actually did my worst ever test at an event this year and got the most beautiful photo off my horse, when I saw the proof I rang my mum, who said I must be lying!! So my dressage photo now has pride of place in the hall!
Here it is....
