I'm struggling at times with brakes at shows when jumping towards collecting ring area, and currently ride in Neue Scule training full-cheeked snaffle (i.e. mildest bit possible). It's not a general brakes issue as he's normally manageable fine in that bit. But when he wants to nap, he doesn't listen to little old me on top. Trainer is bringing a bit to my next lesson to try. I *think* this is just a confidence issue and one that will be resolved with time and practice, but in the meantime it's slightly dangerous and very scary!

BUT. I have a Sabre Cordoba bridle i.e. comfort headpiece. Will this basically negate any possible bit that has a poll action?

He sticks his nose out low and goes, so am not sure what would be best. Not a nose-between-the-knees type thing, nor a head in the air bolt.

I really REALLY don't want to go down the stronger bit route. He's ridden in a cavesson noseband as a flash doesn't improve brakes and just seems to p*ss him off.

i would have thought you want pressure, not discomfort, so would have thought a padded headpiece would still put pressure on in a better way?

Still see your point, if his head goes down, then poll pressure would suggest it will go further down...

What is the cordoba like? i considered one a little while back, are they nice?

Ooo now that's interesting. Thats what I'd like - I'm a big fan of the comfort headpieces but people have said to me what's the point if you want some poll action. Thing is, I don't mind polll action but want it still spread over wider area. Must admit I haven't spoken to NS about it. Maybe that should be my next port of call.

Well yes, that's exactly what I want, but I've seen people getting laughed at for having poll-action bits and comfort bridles. I wasn't sure whether the headpiece would just totally wipe it out (surely not?).

Cordoba bridle is gorgeous. Being used 6 times a week for a year and still looks good as new but is super-soft. Only problem is you're limited in nosebands i.e. cavesson, flash or grackle. They won't make drop nosebands for it
