I'm struggling at times with brakes at shows when jumping towards collecting ring area, and currently ride in Neue Scule training full-cheeked snaffle (i.e. mildest bit possible). It's not a general brakes issue as he's normally manageable fine in that bit. But when he wants to nap, he doesn't listen to little old me on top. Trainer is bringing a bit to my next lesson to try. I *think* this is just a confidence issue and one that will be resolved with time and practice, but in the meantime it's slightly dangerous and very scary!
BUT. I have a Sabre Cordoba bridle i.e. comfort headpiece. Will this basically negate any possible bit that has a poll action?
He sticks his nose out low and goes, so am not sure what would be best. Not a nose-between-the-knees type thing, nor a head in the air bolt.
I really REALLY don't want to go down the stronger bit route. He's ridden in a cavesson noseband as a flash doesn't improve brakes and just seems to p*ss him off.
