My boy suffers this time of year with the pollen. I used to leave him in on warm days with soaked hay but I'm not convinced he was any better off being in. Just been out to see him and whilst he is very irritated, snotty nose, rubbing nose etc he seems happy to graze. He wears a fly rug and fly mask. Unfortunately he won't tolerate anything over his nose so I have had to take the nose attachment off his mask. I currently ride him early morning, this suits the both of us.

What do you do with your allergy sufferers?

Little lady has a issue with tree pollen, shes currently in at night and on a bare paddock during the day to lose weight, but when shes out full time I try to limit her contact with the trees and she gets piriton in a tiny handful of hifi daily.

Thanks for reply asbo. Do the piriton help? How many do you feed? My lad is 17h so he may need a few!!! I have tried all sorts but am willing to try anything again!

You can get a bottle of 50 tablets from Lloyds chemists. My boy suffers at this time of the year and really noticed it yesterday and today :(

You will need quite a few for a 17hh horse but iriton is cheap to buy for a tub of 500 on line.
Personally I would keep him out unless your stables are air conditioned as the muggy still air in the stable will be laden with dust and pollen. and give piriton if they help some it doesnt help much and can act as a sedative with some and make them dozy and tired

Could you put some vaseline around his nostrils to try to get some of the pollen before it goes in if he won't wear a net?

Will have a look on line for the tablets, it's worth another try.

I have managed to get vaseline in his nostrils once, he just gets too upset. I tried the nostril vet and the human one you can squirt up the nose, he loves these but they don't work!
