Hi
I own a 15hh connemara who is 15. He suffers from a pollen allergy and is given ventipulmin daily, he started coughing last week so i started him on the ventipulmin, however, he is still coughing. I will warm him up and he coughs 5 times although after that he seemed to have cleared himself.

I then began to jump and he jumped fine but coughed a couple of times when I was doing a bit of flat work straight after jumping. This was in our school where there are pollen rich fields around us, and I hacked him out yesterday and he was fine and then started coughing on a road where even i could smell the pollens but after this he stopped.

I am wondering if there is anything else I can do for him, he isn't having dry hay. Do you think a nose net and ear cover would help?

We're competing on Sunday and I'm very worrid that he may start coughing half way around his jumping course? However, we're due rain so this could reduce the pollen count and would a change of location at a show help??

Any suggests thanks for reading this essay!

Do you know what pollen he has the allergy too, as my mare who suffers from sweet itch also has an allergy to oak pollen and the past couple of days she has started wheezying, plus the fact it is so dry, she's been on ventipulmin several times and although it has helped in the past it hasn't helped much this time, so vet said chuck her out, so she's out on 9 acres with my other mare tonight(rug on) just praying for rain as it's so dry and dusty

Hi :D my horse who has a pollen allergy. he also began with it last week. The ventipulmin should work (out of interest how much do you give yours a day?)
A nose net would definately help, you might find a full nose bag better than a half one (someone on here has a pic of one in their sig cant think who tho!) As for ears i doubt that will make any difference, try putting vaseline inside his nose aswell to catch the pollen, it works abit. if the show is in a less polleny area that will help but only whilst he is there i imagine.
I will keep my fingers crossed for rain, i want some too for pollen and sore feet!!

Hi
I don't know what type of pollen he is allergic to however we have an unmanged forest to the left of us and open fields on the right.

I am currently giving him two scoops in the morning and two in the afternoon everyday.
I'm really hoping for raining as it is so dry and the ground is like a rock!

I will try the vaseline and try and get a nose net, thank you.
