Now I know in England where you can ride your horse is quite strict. Up here ins scotland its more relaxed BUT there are rules.

I was driving past our local football/rugby pitches tonight to see riders schooling on them

How does the law stand on this as I did it when our new primary was being built but only as I knew that it was getting ripped up and I asked before I did it and it was fine, but seeing this when its been mega wet up here and they have all just been relined I was rather shocked and a wee bit angry.

Anyone know what the rulings are on this as I dont want it impacting us other local horsey folk who dont ride on them :(

According to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, you can ride over sports/recreational land BUT you need permission to set up jumps or do repetitive schooling. I can only imagine the mess they have left given how wet the ground is again:/

Well put it this way i could see the mess 50/70 yards away on the main road :( See its that 'ride across' that gets me, I would take that as hacking round the outside of the pitch, not using middle of it :(

Yes I suspect they hope common sense will prevail and people dont actually ride across pitches etc!! Really bad that they were actually schooling on them though - certainly doesnt show us riders in a good light:/

Some folk are so selfish. I can see the council being out chasing us all or locking the gates again :(

I usually cross behind it to get ti the forest for a canter :( Wont if its locked up :(
