Well I took my guys off of all alfalfa products (chaff and nuts) and took E off her barley to see if it made a difference to their temperaments (barley with E perhaps but not too sure ) and put them on readigrass and TopSpec cool and condition cubes, along with the V V and beetpulp.

The readigrass is cheaper for a big sack than the alfalfa was and goes further, one bag lasts me 4 weeks with them both getting large round heaped scoops each twice a day but the C+C cubes are nearly 13 quid and a bag only lasts me 2 weeks and TBF I tempted to go back to alfalfa pellets as I can get a 25kg bag for 8 quid and soak them as well and a whole bag lasted me longer, just seemed to be more in it. I also felt i didnt have to feed as muc of them TBF ;)

They are also getting two measures of linseed per feed (lovely shiny ponies ) but K is lacking a bit of spark (he was never unmanageble on the alfalfa it was more to see if E calmed down ) and I think it was the alfalfa that gave him that. :D

Ive also tried Spillers, Baileys No4 (wouldnt eat them the little black beast!! gave them to S for Dezi) and build up cubes (£18 a bag  ).

So should I persevere or should I just pop them back on the alfalfa cubes. I know what I want to do Im just swithering, they have been on the topspec now for about 3 weeks im on to my second bag and there really dont seem to be much for £13

If you still want to avoid alfalfa but don't want to pay silly prices, you could feed grassnuts. We use them in different quantities for our 3 (well actually only 2 get them). The elderly cob gets a scoop of grassnuts soaked and mixed with Graze-on and Speedibeet. She maintains her weight very well. The others have only small amounts to carry supplements. They all have very different temperaments and one of ours can't eat alfalfa, so we don't have any around.

i'd put K back on the alfalfa and keep E off it, and see how they go.
i'm no fan of TopSpec, had some years ago and it smelt of fish and the horses wouldn't eat it, no idea what that was all about because it wasn't out of date. Ugh though.
I'm a huge fan of Baileys Stud Balancer for all my horses (not just breeding stock etc), i'd swap to that from the Topspec.

Oooh that's awful kerilli!! I also don't like that the ingredients for the top spec aren't on the bag

Might get a bag of alfalfa nuts and pop some into Kks feed as they are getting fed separately just now.

Have looked at things like redmills and the calm and condition but when I looked at the ingredients for the redmills reduced starch products they still had oats and barley in them

Ill have a look at that balancer as I have heard good and bad things about balancers....
