we have a horse which when lunged works very low, and there is potential for rein and leg to meet. the pondering thought is i don't wish to use side reins connect to the mouth or to the side of the lunging canvason as it is an accident waiting to happen, but i am wondering if while we work through this issue the use of a daisy rein connected so that it comes into play when the neck goes to low would work?

anyone lunged with a daisy rein?

I'm not advocating this as have no experience of using it, but was reading Sally O'Connor's book recently and she advocates use of an overcheck for this purpose - which isn't far off a daisy rein.

Edited to add - have personally used side reins connected to top d rings on saddle/roller,.crossed over at wither and down to bit. Commonly used when breaking in racehorses and would probably do more to limit downwards motion and keep side reins out of leg entanglement risk area.
