Just looked out of my kitchen window to see a large fox boldly heading towards the gateway from the field he was in, when my Welshies spotted him. We had a Mexican stand off for 0.12 seconds and then the C (who is the biggest wuss in the universe!) took off at speed and charged Mr Fox, with the A and D in hot persuit! The ponies heads were lowered, ears flat against their snaking heads as they gained on the fox.
The fox nipped through the sheep netting fence and made good his escape and the ponies skidded to a halt, tails up, heads in the air, snorting.
I have to confess during all this I was egging them on loudly from the warmth of my kitchen!!!
My ponies will allow any dog, cat, sheep, birds etc in their field and have never chased any of them, but Mr Fox is a completely different matter.
Oddly enough.....none of them has been hunting!!! It must just be an instinctive hatred of foxes and I have to say.. if the fox had tripped and fallen like people in the movies do...I wouldn't have fancied his chances!!!!
