Hi, my pony had liver damage & photosensitivity in 2009 all his legs peeled (white legs & nose) he was on steriods & hepatosyl tablets, stayed in, in the day & lived out at night through all the strong sunlight restested every 28 days for 3 months, he made a huge improvement after being told when first diaognosed he'd need putting down as didnt eat for 3 days was really week etc.

2010 - was fine all summer kept him on milk thistle supplement & always brought him in, in the strong sunlight.

2011 - always brought in, in the strong sunlight, competed all year with no problems!

2012 - had him tested to check he was okay, told his bile acids where high at 25.5.. told to keep him in in strong sunlight to make sure he doesnt have a repeat of 2009.. given hepatosyl plus 3 a day for 12 days then 2 a day for 12 days, steroid tablets (25mg) 11 a day for 12 days then 11 every other day for 12 days. Also given antibiotics (on the side of the box its says do not give to any equine with liver damage), half a sachet a day for 24 days, because the steroids will supress his immune system, so just to make sure he isnt at risk of infection.

Any advice..

Also, he is up to weight, showing now signs of illness, was just a check to make sure he is all okay, galloping around the field!! And won hunter trial last month!!!! He is nearly 17years old btw!!

Thanks

M
