Ponies VS. Horses

so which do you prefer riding?

i own a 6yo horse, but he can't jump or school (old hip injury) and i have a 12yo pony on loan. i love riding Oscar (my horse) as he's very responsive and has a super soft mouth (you just need to touch the reins to stop dead from a fast canter) but the pony (B) is a really small, fast, wizzy games pony, and he's so fun! i love messing around on ponies, games ect, which you can't really do with horses. i also put off 'graduating' onto horses until as late as possible, it's not really a confidence thing, i just love how cheeky and naughty ponies are, they're usually so intelligent!

so which do you prefer?

Ponies all day long im light enough to get away with riding them and they are so much fun,cheeky,naughty and sharp the naughtier the better i love a challenge!

Ponies - they're closer to the ground! Unless I'm jumping, then a horse is better as the jumps seem smaller!

Love owning ponies and out of all mine I adore my sweet heart minature and Jesse is my everything.... but you can't beat riding a dirty big showjumper

I enjoy riding both.

I fall off ponies really easily though as they can be so sharp and because I'm usually too tall for them I get unbalanced

With horses I find I'm more comfortable too.

See, this is one of the reasons i adore pony crosses

Im far too tall to ride ponies and i like the paces of the warmbloods. However, i like the 5 legs that ponies seem to acquire and just that pony-esque outlook on life.

Mines by a danish warmblood dressage stallion out of a connemara mare and he rocks

5 legs, very cheecky, very sound, flashy paces, smart and extremely athletic

Mae is 14.1hh so technically still a pony. Shes sooo fun to ride. Ive rode OHs 17hh tb and didnt enjoy it as much, you gather more speed on the way down when falling off lol

the smallest i can really ride is my loan horse a 14.2hh cob X tb, even i look too big on him!

the only horse i suit is eddie, the 4 yr old 17.1hh eventing mare who i am looking after.

id choose ponies if i fitted on them, but i love horses cause you have more to hold onto if you are nearly falling off haha

I am big pony fan, I've tried with horses but really don't get on with them - so have just got another Highland Pony - they suit me perfectly

As you know, we have just got a pony team. Before we got them we had full choice about horses or ponies, and ultimately Horses would have been easier to get, but Ponies it was. Ponies are better because
In driving they are more compeititive
They are easier to keep
Cheaper to keep
Dont need constsant work
And are easier to deal with.

Ponies are more fun, you can thunder about on them and it (generally) wont blow their minds, whereas with my horses they're more "serious" if you know what I mean!

izzy still counts as a pony at 14hh and i can get away with it i was told after riding someones 15.2 that i looked better on that but tbh i love ponies and the fact their little legs have to whirl round

a year ago I would have said Ponies without hesitation.

But really into horses at the moment, the bigger the better. I love the feeling of a big powerful well schooled horse. (that sounds a bit wierd but you know what i mean lol)

Ponies are fun but they have such little strides and I'm too leggy for them really.

that is so true !!

Ponies vote for me. im 21 and love my 13.1 she is the nuts and so much more fun than everyone elses 'serious' horses she has a brilliant 'pony' outlook on life and is cheeky as hell.
i dont really like riding horses, they are too big for me anything over 15hands and i feel a bit out of my depth especially being so short myself!

cheaper to keep, usually a lot hardier, easier to handle, nearer to the gorund when you fall off and lighter when they stand on your foot!!
