Morning peeps!

I am undecided about how to rug Pony.

He is currently in a 220g mid-weight combo with a fleece underneath. The weather is turning really cold at night and I think I need to increase the warmth.

His mid-weight is still fairly new so I was hoping just to buy an under rug. I do worry that the under rug might get wet though (he is currently out 24/7 and has a blanket clip).

Any thoughts/recommendations?

What he's wearing sounds enough to me for now.
My sec a is fully clipped and in a medium weight (in at night in the same)
He won't go into a heavy until it gets around 2 degrees or below :)

I have temp level 'guidelines' for my boy about what he wears but they're guidelines and only apply to him as he'll vary against others - always check his temp anyway :)

Old boy used to have a stable rug under his TO in the worst weather and it didn't come off badly or wet at all but then again, the fit of brands and individual horses will vary. You could try it, or simpler solution - have you got a HW?

Is the pony clipped?

My elderly TB is curerntly livign out with a 200g full neck turnout, but often has the 100g full neck turnout on during the day.

How cold is really cold at night? It hasn;t really been less than 5 or 6 degrees here, and my tb (aged 30) is fine in the 200g. He's not clipped.

I woudl advise against using an under rug is he lives out 24/7, they can slip and can get wet if it chucks it down. I woudl buy a heavyweight for the colder weather, but remember last year - we had several months (or so it seemed) of freezing and below, and snow. This is when you will need the heavy weight.

Unless its that cold where you are now, I would stick to what you're usig now, in fact would say that I wouldn;t be btohering with the fleece.

My welsh and exmoor are out naked and will be all winter.

Took your advice and kept pony as he was. Left him out last night and found him looking a bit wet this morning so I brought him in for the day with some hay. Rug bone dry underneath but went back earlier to find it soaked through. He only has one rug at mo (rest on order) so he'll have to stay in tonight too.

He wont be happy
