I work for a well-known media organisation and just got a message to say a pony has been attacked near Newcastle. Stab wounds to neck, legs and stomach. Poor pony - what makes these sick people do such a thing? It beggers belief.

I feel so sorry for the pony and the poor owner when they found it. Always worrying when these attacks seem to be getting closer to home.

Got more details - happened in Seaton Burn in Newcastle and ponywas attacked in her field. Owner says it looks like someone's tried to carve their initials in her rump. This is so outrageous. She'll need skin grafts too.

If anyone ever did anything like this to mine, I'd catch them and do exactly the same back - so they'd be getting their initials carved in their backsides, followed by several good hard kicks to the same place!

For me though, I think someone should fake a story in the news to say someone was found dead with a knife in their hand, in a ponies field, and it seems like the animal has killed the person attacking it.

Bet a few of these sick b*stards would think twice about doing it then...

There's a sickening report on the Daily Mail website. Let's hope she pulls through without too much pain and discomfort.
Poor little girl.

this makes me feel sick, this increase of these attacks (esp with this one being local) make me glad i dnt have my own horse anymore.

i cant imagine the pain for the owners let alone the poor little animal.

OMG How horrible, I would be heartbroken.

I feel slight comfort at the fact I can't catch my horse for love nor money at the moment, they wouldn't have a chance getting near him!

it says the attack happened between July 9 and July 12 and when the pony was found maggots were in the wounds.
I wonder why it took so long for her to be found.
If they weren't being checked daily then it highlights the importance of doing so. wouldn't have prevented the attack but it may have limited her suffering
I also wonder if this was some sort of vendetta thing and the initials bit was to leave a bizarre message for the pony's owner?

I agree katherinef. Still as you say unfortunatley wouldn't have prevented the attack.
These people are sick and need catching fast.
