I moved my pony to a new yard last weekend and he is now on limited turnout in an individual paddock. Yesterday I got a call from the YM saying that he had broken the corner fence post in his field.
I know he isn't keen on being on his own, he tries to play with the horses on either side of him and probably got the fence down like this somehow. However, I now feel I can't trust him out unsupervised, but I can't spend hours watching him but would like him to have more freedom. The fencing is electric (but another livery thought the fencing had been switched off) but old. Would I be too cruel in keeping him in all day (apart from when I'm mucking out and when my children can ride) until I finally get another horse in a couple of months which will be his new buddy? Or shall I put him out and keep my fingers crossed?

Moving locations is always stressful for most equines and it can take many weeks to settle in.

Letting your pony out in an individual paddock should be OK as long as he is near other equines. However I find it odd that the fencing does not appear to be adequate or fit for purpose and it should be !

Keeping him in might not be a good thing especially if he is agitated at the moment and also if he is not used to being kept for most of the time.

I would have thought that any responsible YO would ensure a newcomer is given time to settle in and would provide support accordingly.

Have you talked to your YO about the options ?
