As a kid I lapped up everything possible about horses and ponies , I Loved all the Jill books , all the Phantom books etc , but there was another series I loved about a boy from a poor background who was friends with a posh girl , I think they started a riding school , his name may have been David and his ambition was to *ride with a Union Jack under his saddle * , anyone any ideas ......Also I loved a poem that was in one of those Horse and Pony reference books , it was about an old hunter coming to the end of his life ( it was sad ) it started with the lines The house is old , the rooms are cold , the hearth is empty and the windows stare , does anyone know the rest ?????
