Pony Club Area Quiz. Anyone doing it?

I did this a few years ago and am sitting here trying to remember some of the questions. The topics are The Pony Club, Horses, Literature & Geography, Foot & Shoeing/First Aid, Odd One Out, Practical Recognition (Spot the Error for the Junior section in this round), Horse & Pony Care/Feeding, Picture Round and Call the Vet.

For the pony club section we had to write the number of members in the uk, the number of branches in the uk and the number of countries making up the euro pony club (all those figures will remain etched in my brain forever

). They seem to always ask which branch invented the pc tie. I remember the geography section being pretty hard and absolutely nothing to do with horses eg where in the uk would you find spaghetti junction? The practical recognition is fairly straightforward because there are only so many things they can find to use although they do tend to be rather archaic pieces of equipment! There is nearly always a scamperdale pelham, tongue layer grid, various types of girths (3 fold, balding etc) whistler bit, peacock rings etc. The spot the error will be something like a bit on backwards, bridoon/weymouth on the wrong part of the double, throatlash on the wrong side. The picture round could have famous riders/horses/fence at badminton, horse colour, type of bit/shoe, breed of horse etc.

I hope that's some help. Just remembered that we had to assemble a bridle in 2mins in pairs (juniors did a snaffle and seniors double incl. lip strap etc) but it doesn't mention that on the pc website http://www.pcuk.org/output/activities/page_13839.html

When I did it last year we didn't have to do anything practical like assemble a bridle, it was all written
Geography round was all about sports such as sailing, golf, running. They like you to know all about the pony club, when was it started, prize money etc etc

I did it! I do it every year cos its such good fun in our pc, as there are 40 of us that do it!! just missed out on qualifiyin last year by 1 point... dam, if i had only known the 2 ingredients in pesto:p

we usually have a general knowledge, a pony club round, a music round (last yr was really good as they used the tv theme tunes ie fresh prince of bel air!) georaphy round (we had sights of britain eg angel of north) picture round (pics of celebrities and politicians) practical round (we had to name things like bits and different tack) a wildlife round, horse and pony care round and a health and safety round (!!)...

love the quiz... by the way, you guys are way behind:p we have been in training since the week before christmas:D

good luck!

Hi sarah,

You know, I did this last time with the PC when we went to the Championships and I can't remember a single thing.

Oh yes........feed stuffs... must be able to recognise those.
Bits, nosebands,boots
Poisonous plants
Horrendous music questions, lots of classical stuff
General countryside knowledge, plants
Animals

Kirsty, Megan and Britt all went, ask Britt about the yewee! Mo and Karen did a lot of work towards it they should remember.

Only me, which PC are you with?
Ours (oh hark at me, OK, my ex-PC) tragically lost our DC very suddenly just before Christmas which rather put things on hold a bit.

I grew up on a diet of PC quizzes with the Oakley West - great fun! Most of them you had 4 people in a team, of differing ages (U12, U14, U16, U21) and you'd be asked questions which you had to answer. One of the local PC's (beds South I think) hosted more of a practical quiz - you'd have to identify objects that had been sewn into material bags e.g. bits, be blindfolded and identify smells, the younger ones would have to put togther a snaffle bridle, the older two a double bridle. And, you'd have to move like a horse, i.e. in a pair, make a hors (like in a panto!) and then do walk, trot canter or whatever with your combined 4 legs (harder than it sounds!).

Great fun. Learnt loads.

There used to be a PC quiz book, that was turquoise in colour.
